ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (houseboats):

1) Boating Licences:
Those who require a boating licence are:
-  everyone regardless of age or type of powered recreational vessel operated will need a licence.

2) Navigation:
- we supply a Lake Temagami navigational map with each houseboat.
- there are depth sounders on board to help you avoid any rocks or shallow areas

3) Communication:
- we have VHF radios on each houseboat to communicate to us at the base camp (if you have any problems or questions).

4) Phones:
- cell phone service is very unreliable on the lake (non-existent or unclear signal)
- please advise anyone who may wish to contact you while you are here that the only way of reaching you is by them calling our business line and then us calling you on a VHF radio; they will not be able to speak to you. So advise your family and/or friends to only call in case of an emergency (and we will do our best to relay a message to you)

5) Power/Electricity:
- we have added a small electrical system to the houseboat (with the use of an inverter), which can supply 400 watts. This will give the houseboaters some electrical power, but note that any appliances that generate heat (e.g. hair dryers, curling irons, coffee makers, toasters, etc.) will NOT work.
- there is also a 12 volt battery plug-in at the front of the boat
- the lights on the houseboat are run off the battery of the engine
- the heat, fridge and stove are supplied by propane tanks
- the barbecue has its own propane tank

6) Pets:
- we strongly advise against bringing any pets on the houseboat

7) Music:
- we have added a small stereo system that can play CD's. Note that this is installed on the lower deck, so if you want music on the upper deck, you will still need to bring your own portable music system (radios, CD players, MP3 players etc.) Don't forget batteries.

8) TV's:
- we have replaced the TV/VCR players with TV/DVD players. Note that the TV by itself has no reception. The TV is hard-wired to a 12-volt plug-in so it is not portable.

9) Food and food storage:
- there is an 8 cubic foot fridge with a freezer section. We supply a large cooler on board. Most people use this for their drinks. Note that we sell ice here (blocks and cubes). The size of the oven is maximum of 14" wide and 8.5" high or maximum of 16" wide and 6.5" high. There is an oven light inside that you have to consider (that's why 2 sizes are listed).

10) Drinking Water:
- we supply 38 litres (10 U.S. gallons) of fresh water (chlorinated) on board.

11) Fishing Boats / Canoes:
- we recommend that you bring or rent a small fishing boat or canoe to town behind the houseboat. We rent boats and canoes here. Let us know if you would like to reserve either one.
